• SHADOWING

AACA 8th graders are allowed two excused absences to visit the high schools of their choice and 7th graders are allowed one in the spring.  Parents are responsible for setting up shadow dates and transportation directly with the HS.  Students must complete and parents must sign the Shadow Day form three days prior to the shadow date in order to be excused.  Students are required to make up all missed work.

SHADOWING AT DIFFERENT TYPES OF HIGH SCHOOLS:

    CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOLS:
Catholic high schools allow 8th-grade students to visit their school for an entire school day. The student shadows with a freshman or sophomore and gets to experience high school first-hand. He/she will get to know the academics and social aspects of that school.  Visit each high school website to learn more about their shadow program.

SELECTIVE ENROLLMENT HIGH SCHOOLS AND OTHER CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS:
Selective enrollment high schools do not allow students to shadow.  They may allow a shadow day in the spring once you have been accepted.  Please check with specific high school.

Lake View High School, Amundsen, and a few other Neighborhood High Schools allow students to shadow.  Please check specifically with your neighborhood high school.

PRIVATE, INDEPENDENT AND CHARTER HIGH SCHOOLS:
These schools each have their own set of shadowing guidelines.  Please go directly to the school's website to learn more about their shadow programs.
