• 5th AND 6th GRADE TIMELINE

     

    PARENT TIMELINE

    • Attend all the High School Readiness meetings at AACA
    • Get to know your child as a student. What are his/her strengths/weaknesses? Is there something that you can do to help them become a better student, better test-taker, more confident, etc.?
    • Begin gathering information on high schools:
      • Talk to any high school students that you may know about their high school specifically and their high school experience
      • Talk to parents with high school age kids
      • Talk to teachers or administrators that you may know from high schools
      • Visit high school websites to gather pertinent information
      • Attend events at different high schools and get to know the schools better
      • Have your student attend summer camps at different high schools - most high schools offer camps to elementary school students
    • Begin to think about what qualities are important to you and your family in a high school
    • 6th grade: Attend the high school fairs in the fall
    • 6th grade: Attend the Catholic School presentations in the spring
    • 6th grade: Attend the "Rockets Return: AACA graduates come back" and the parent panel in the spring 

     

    STUDENT TIMELINE

    • Do your very best in school!!
    • Work on your executive functioning skills, independent study strategies, and test-taking strategies
    • Attend events at high schools that are specifically for middle school students
    • Attend sporting or theatre events at different high schools
    • Attend a summer camp at a high school 
    • 6th grade: Attend the Catholic high school visits at AACA in the spring of 6th grade
    • 6th grade: Attend the “Rockets Return: AACA graduates come back” in the spring to hear from AACA graduates who will come back to discuss their high school experiences
