SERVICE TO OTHERSAt Alphonsus Academy, we encourage our students to live out their faith every day as part of being responsible citizens and Christians. One way we do this is to engage students in service to others that extends into and beyond our community in a way that contributes to our students' sense of themselves as people who can create change in the world.BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACKWe are also pleased to announce that AACA is once again partnering with Blessings in a Backpack to provide meals for students at a partner school throughout the upcoming school year.1 in 5 America children do not know where their next meal will come from. In Cook County, more than 250,000 children face food insecurity. During the school week, these children are fed by the free and reduced meal program at school. Blessings in a Backpack is a nationwide organization that helps feed hungry elementary school kids. Blessings provides weekend food bags for students who receive free lunch and breakfast at school every day of the school week and so are at risk of going hungry on the weekends.
Through a partnership with Blessings in a Backpack, Alphonsus Academy & Center for the Arts is going to provide food for 50 students every weekend of the school year. With the help of parent volunteers, our students will pack up a month's worth of shelf stable meals to be delivered to the children at Holy Angels and distributed on Fridays.
We are in need of parent volunteers to: (1) Pick up the food from Mariano's on Ashland (2) Work with students to pack the meals and (3) Deliver the meals to Holy Angels once a month.
Please reach out to Caitlin Giles at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions about the project.KINDNESS CONNECTIONThe Kindness Connection (TKC) is an innovative non-profit organization that encourages volunteerism by providing fun and meaningful service learning activities for school-aged children. Each year, the student leaders of AACA's Student Council select a project for all children in kindergarten - 8th grade to complete during a day of service at our school.
